සිංහල හා දෙමළ අලුත් අවුරුද්ද ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ අතිශය ප්‍රිය සැමරුමකි. සූර්යා මීන රාශියෙන් මේෂ රාශියට ගමන් කරන මෙම සංක්‍රාන්ති අවස්ථාවේ දී, නැකැත් අනුව ස්නාන, ආහාර පිළිස්සීම, ගනුදෙනු, සහ ශ්‍රමදාන ආදී සියලු චාරිත්‍ර නිවැරදි දිශාව බලා, නිශ්චිත මොහොතේ සිදු කෙරේ.
